BIOGRAPHY

 

ALLISTAIR IS AN AWARD-WINNING CONTEMPORARY SURFACE DESIGNER WITH A BACKGROUND IN FINE ART, FASHION DESIGN AND PRINTED TEXTILES. 

ALLISTAIR’S CURRENT WORK IS INSPIRED BY HIS SENSORY RESPONSES TO SOUND, PARTICULARLY MUSIC, ALONGSIDE THE SHAPES AND SYMBOLS FOUND WITHIN THE NATURAL AND URBAN LANDSCAPES AND ARCHITECTURE.

ALLISTAIR GRADUATED FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS LONDON IN 2012 WITH A BA (HONS) IN SURFACE DESIGN. PRIOR TO STUDYING IN LONDON, ALLISTAIR ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF BEDFORDSHIRE AND WAS AWARDED A FOUNDATION DEGREE WITH DISTINCTION IN FASHION AND TEXTILE DESIGN. WHILST STUDYING ALLISTAIR INTERNED AT THREE LONDON FASHION HOUSES, WORKING WITH MATTHEW WILLIAMSON AND ERDEM AND AS A TEXTILE ASSISTANT FOR THE DESIGN ICON ZANDRA RHODES.

IN JANUARY 2014 ALLISTAIR WON THE AFGHANMADE BEST YOUNG DESIGNER AWARD AT THE 9TH CARPET DESIGN AWARDS, HELD AT DOMOTEX HANNOVER, THE WORLD’S LARGEST TRADE SHOW FOR FLOOR COVERINGS.

SINCE JULY 2014 ALLISTAIR HAS BEEN A FELLOW OF THE DIGSWELL ARTS TRUST, AN ARTS ORGANISATION DEVOTED TO SUPPORTING NEW TALENT AND EMERGING CREATIVES, AND IN MARCH 2017 ALLISTAIR WAS INVITED TO BECOME A MEMBER OF DESIGN-NATION, AN ONLINE PORTFOLIO FOR CRAFT, DESIGN AND PRODUCT DESIGNERS.

ALLISTAIR HAS COLLABORATED WITH COMPANIES INCLUDING RUG-MAKER, AFGHANMADE AND THINK POSITIVE PRINTS UK ALONGSIDE ORGANISATIONS SUCH AS CAMPAIGN FOR WOOL AND ARTS THREAD.

IN 2015 ALLISTAIR’S WORK RECEIVED ROYAL RECOGNITION FROM HRH PRINCE CHARLES WHEN HE WAS INVITED TO TAKE PART IN THE CAMBRIAN MOUNTAINS WOOL INTERNATIONAL DESIGN CHALLENGE AND AT THE START OF 2016 ALLISTAIR’S TEXTILE ARTWORK, ‘DIGITAL STITCH’, WAS ACQUIRED BY THE NATIONAL WOOL MUSEUM IN WALES TO BE PART OF THEIR PERMANENT TEXTILE COLLECTION.
